Earth Day Celebration with Rockaway Film Festival
Join our Earth Day Celebration event in collaboration with Rockaway Film Festival, Laru Beya Collective, Buena Onda Collective, and Jamaica Bay Rockaway Parks Conservancy on Saturday April 19 at Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary - Trailhead.
The Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary is an important natural area on Jamaica Bay. Its salt marshes provide habitat for local wildlife and migratory birds and help clean our waterways. Join us in removing trash from our neighboring wetland and collecting materials for an upcycled art project headed by Buena Onda Collective. The cleanup will take place from 4-6pm.
At 6pm, the Annex Cinema (415 B 72 St, Queens, NY 11692) will be open. Buena Onda Collective will create and display large cyanotypes using debris collected from the cleanup. There also will be a raffle for items donated Blundstone.
At 7pm, the film screening of LAST THINGS by Deborah Stratman will began. “A glittering view of life on Earth from the perspective of the rocks and minerals that came before us and will outlast us. Moving between science and poetry, microscopic forms and vast landscapes, Deborah Stratman’s crystalline, geohistorical inquiry seeks a picture of evolution without humans at the center.”
All Earth Day events are free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
