We’re taking up space on the beach to celebrate Juneteenth aka “Freedom Day,” a yearly celebration that started in 1866 to mark the end of slavery in the United States. This event is presented by yours truly Laru Beya Collective plus our fam Clip Mode Squad, We Surf Media, Mosiah Moonsammy, & Party Blackly!

From November to February, this year’s media mentorship cohort took to Rockaway’s frigid winter waters to begin telling their stories through capturing breathtaking in-water and on land imagery. On March 15 the media mentorship will release the zine “Lígemeri Barana” and showcase their work in an exhibition at 596 Washington Avenue C1, Brooklyn, NY 11238.
